In jest.  That’s a common part of conversation.

 

It is an attempt to soften a point…by adding humor.

 

Typically…it is a harmless part of a discussion.  But…sometimes it can be hurtful.

 

People use jest…because they are trying to avoid an unpleasant confrontation.  It can be a cloak for cowardice.

 

The Bible addresses this matter: “Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

 

This disallows any form of jesting that has the potential to cause harm.

 

So…what is the point?  Don’t jest unless you know it is harmless and respectful.
